High tea on teaching and research

New faculty and their mentors are cordially invited to high tea with a group of Queens College scholars who will share their thoughts on the relationship between teaching and research.

Our discussants, drawn from a previous year's Strategic Planning Committee on the Balance of Teaching and Research, include:

Why teaching hardly counts for full-time faculty, especially when it's outsourced to adjuncts
  • Susan Croll (Psychology)
Scholarly engagement: The process of turning students into colleagues
  • Robert Engel (Chemistry & Biochemistry)
Teaching and research is like sex and violence: How do you separate them?
  • Jeff Halperin (Psychology)
Using the laboratory milieu to facilitate education and training concurrently at the undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral levels
  • Steven Schwarz (Physics)
PLAS and W courses in the sciences
