For our last forum for new faculty this academic year, new faculty and their mentors are cordially invited to high tea with a group of Queens College scholars who will share their thoughts on the relationship between teaching and research.

Our discussants, drawn from last year's Strategic Planning Committee on the Balance of Teaching and Research, include:

  Why teaching hardly counts for full-time faculty, especially when it's outsourced to adjuncts
• Susan Croll (Psychology)
  Scholarly engagement: The process of turning students into colleagues
• Robert Engel (Chemistry & Biochemistry)

• Jeff Halperin (Psychology)
  Using the laboratory milieu to facilitate education and training concurrently at the undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral levels

Making Connections: ePortfolio, Integrative Learning, and Assessment
A national conference, scheduled for April 11 and 12 at LaGuardia Community College.

Making Connections will draw leaders in the field from across the country. LaGuardia students and faculty will showcase their groundbreaking innovations. The Making Connections conference provides a unique opportunity to examine the practice and promise of this transformative learning tool.
