The University has released a draft of the 2008-2012 CUNY Master Plan which you will find posted on the college Web site at www.qc.cuny.edu/about/DRAFT_CUNY_MasterPlan.pdf. The University would like comments on this draft plan from each of the colleges. This is your opportunity to provide your views on the direction and initiatives of the University in the next several years. Please provide your comments to me electronically at president@qc.cuny.edu by Monday, April 14. The college will collect comments and send a single response to the University.

Faculty inquiry groups: Studying teaching and learning at CUNY

Excerpt from an email from Judith Summerfield, University Dean for Undergraduate Education, March 13, 2008:

This year's University-wide CASTL seminars have raised provocative questions and resulted in much stimulating conversation. Thank you to all who have participated.

Now, we want to take those conversations to the next step, by supporting the work of Faculty Inquiry Groups during the next academic year. To that end, the 2008-2009 Faculty Development Grant Program will provide funding to support inquiry into key areas of undergraduate education: General Education, Pedagogy, The First Year, and Writing Across the Curriculum/Writing in the Disciplines. (Please see the Proposal Guidelines and Application that are attached to this email.) These are purposefully broad categories; it is up to groups of faculty (and, if applicable, administrators) to come together and define the specific questions within these areas that they wish to pursue.

At its meeting on April 10, the Academic Senate will be reviewing Suggestions for an Effective Syllabus, submitted to the Senate by the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee.

The Senate meets in Kiely 170, from 3:35 to 6 pm.

The Office of Regulatory Compliance is holding training sessions for a new online IRB protocol submission system. Training sessions, available to QC faculty, are scheduled for May 8, 2008, at the following times:

9:30 AM – 11:30 AM
12:00 PM – 2:00 PM
2:30 PM – 4:30 PM
