President's teaching awards and grants

A call for nominations for the President's Awards and Grants for 2008-2009 was announced earlier this week. The three awards at issue are:

1. the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching by Full-time Faculty

2. the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching by Adjunct Faculty

3. the President's Grants for Innovative Teaching Projects

Writing fellowships for CUNY faculty

The Leon Levy Center for Biography at the Graduate Center, CUNY invites applications for writing fellowships for the academic year beginning September 2008. All CUNY Faculty working on a biography are encouraged to apply. The fellowships include a stipend of $60,000, writing space and Graduate Center faculty privileges. Founded with a generous gift from the Leon Levy Foundation, the Center is specifically committed to CUNY faculty receiving support for outstanding work in biography.

Deadline: extended to Monday, February 25, 2008

NEH summer seminars and institutes grants

Call for course proposals: Perspectives on the liberal arts and sciences

The General Education Advisory Committee, assembled to advise the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee on courses proposed for the new General Education curriculum at Queens College, requests proposals for courses in the category: Perspectives on the liberal arts and sciences (Perspectives or PLAS courses). Perspectives courses are described at length in the document Proposal 2: Area Requirements, approved by the Academic Senate in 2006.

Call for proposals: 4th Annual CUNY Gen Ed Conference

Request for Proposals: Gen Ed: Making it Work and Making it Matter

Baruch's General Education Committee devised our theme to be broad enough to include all aspects of General Education. We are particularly interested in areas such as best practices and assessment (Does our teaching work? How do we know?) and student engagement (Do students care? What might encourage them to care?). We’re very interested in innovative approaches such as learning communities, e-portfolios, and service learning---how we use them and how we know whether they work. Proposals on these and other topics will be gratefully received.
