To Queens College faculty:
The Writing Across the Curriculum program and The Center for Teaching and Learning are pleased to announce an opportunity for you to attend a series of weekend workshops hosted by Bard College's Institute for Writing & Thinking (December 7 - 9, 2007).
The workshops--on topics as diverse as "Writing & Thinking," "Revolutionary Grammar," and "Reading India's Ancient Texts through Contemporary Indian Politics"--emphasize approaches to using writing as a vehicle for inquiry and understanding. Click on the below link for more detailed descriptions of Bard's Institute for Writing & Thinking, the weekend workshop series, and the particular workshops offered this December:
http://www.bard.edu/iwt/teachers/workshops/
A group of sixteen QC faculty and Writing Fellows attended last December's workshops at Bard--and had rave reviews. It was an excellent opportunity for us all to spend time together in an idyllic setting, sharing ideas about teaching and getting to know each other better.
If you are interested in attending, please send a brief statement of interest (a short paragraph), including your full name and your departmental affiliation, and your first and second workshop choices, to Scott Cheshire (scott.cheshire@qc.cuny.edu), before Friday, October 26. Expenses for travel, lodging, and meals will be paid by the College. Priority will be given to new faculty.
Sincerely,
Jason Tougaw (Director, WAC)
Eva Fernández (Director, CTL)
The Center for Teaching and Learning, in collaboration with the Rosenthal Library Faculty, is offering a seminar on teaching and learning using library resources. The seminar is split across two meetings, one in Fall 2007, the other in Spring 2008:
November 16, 2007, 12-4 pm (Razran 318): Library technologies: Getting connected. The workshop is a hands-on introduction to the range of online tools the Library offers, with specific attention to how to teach students to use them.
March 2008 --- date TBD --- 12-4 pm (Razran 318): Copyright and plagiarism: Two sides of the same coin? The workshop will engage participants in a conversation on how to develop good practices regarding issues of copyright and plagiarism.
Participants will receive a $300 stipend for participation in both workshops.
Space is limited, so please contact Melinda Miller (melinda.miller@qc.cuny.edu) by November 7th if you are interested. Preference will be given to new faculty and adjunct faculty, so let us know your role (GTF, adjunct, full-time faculty, etc.) when you contact us so we can plan accordingly. Thank you!
A team of faculty users of QC's blogging software, Movable Type, will discuss the application of blogs in a range of teaching and learning endeavors, during a session scheduled for 2-3 pm on Ed Tech Day (October 26).
The presenters:
Boone Gorges, Writing Across the Curriculum
Eva Fernández, Center for Teaching and Learning
Angela Stach, Sociology
Fiona Lee, English
