| If your entry is very long, or if you'd like to leave something to the reader's imagination, it might not be ideal to post the entire thing on the front page of your blog. Movable Type makes it easy to put part of your blog post behind a link ("after the jump", in Blogspeak) with their "extended entry" feature. | ![]() |
| First, navigate to the entry editing page of either a new or existing entry (see this tutorial for a refresher). If this is an entry that you've just written, make sure you click the "Save" button before continuing, or you'll lose what you've written. Then click the "Customize the display of this page" link underneath the "Save" and "Preview" buttons. | ![]() |
| In the box that pops up, you'll need to make a few changes. First, click the "Custom" button on the left hand side. Then check the "Extended Entry" box on the right. Click "Save" to continue. | ![]() |
| The "Create New Entry" screen will reload. Instead of seeing a single large text-entry box, you'll see two. The box entitled "Entry Body" contains the information that will show up on the main page of your blog. The new box, "Extended Entry", is for any text you want to appear after the jump. If you're altering an existing post, you'll want to transfer some of your post from the Entry Body box to the Extended Entry box, by highlighting and choosing "Cut" (Ctrl-X). |

| Anything you paste (Ctrl-V) or type into this box will not appear on the main page of your blog. | ![]() |
| Make sure you've changed the entry status to "Published", then click "Save" and "Rebuild Site". When you view your blog's home page, you'll see the text from the "Entry Body" field. When you click on "Continue reading..."... | ![]() |
| ...you'll see your post in its entirety. | ![]() |
