Jolt

I'm up in the rafters of our new house, which is under renovation, and I feel myself fall through. I wake up with a powerful jolt. I'm awake in time to feel my body fall back onto the bed.

I had this dream--just a fragment, really--last week, while I was working on renovating our house during spring break (and spending a lot of time up in those rafters). I felt the jolt before I had time to fall really. I was just falling through the rafters themselves. The jolt was strong enough to wake me, and I woke in time to feel myself falling back onto the bed. It was no fun, but it was one of those dream sensations that become immediately interesting, and my interest in it drowned out any fear or pain.

The next day, when I went to work, I felt a little spooked about the height up in the rafters, but also determined to push through and work up there. We laid the loft floor that day, so by the end there was no more standing on rafters.
