I meant to post this image a while ago, that is, when we were talking about dream art. However, my home comp. is weird and doesn't let me post images. But anyway... Frida Kahlo is definately one of my favorite visual artists. This piece is called The Dream (1940). It is of the few, if only, painting directly dealing with dreams. There is an interesting parallel being made between the portrayal of the artist in bed and the skeleton, which I assume represents death, on the canopy. There have been poems that compare sleep to death, sleep being a kind of mini/brother of death which may be in play here.
Kahlo is said to be a very personal artist. Her image and life experiences are the subject of most of her panintings. It is interesting to think of the work as imagos of herself, especially since she has many "Self-Portraits." Here are some of my favorites:

Self Portrait, 1926

The Two Fridas, 1939

The Little Deer, 1946

The Love Embrace of the Universe, the Earth (Mexico), Me and Senor Xototl, 1949
