This was also my first time reading Jung although I have seen references to him in various places and, as a kid, remember hearing my dad talk about dreams in what I now recognize as Jungian terms. I liked him more than I liked Freud. He doesn't seen as driven by fame as Freud is. He is also more willing to express his limitations as a doctor.

Trying to understand Kafka after reading his stories for the first time was like learning about Freud's theories about dreams; the meaning, it seemed to me, was nowhere near the surface. I thought that maybe I just wasn't getting it. But eventually it hit me: he's probably doing it on purpose! Obviously.

Reading the Victorian dream theories was really impressive. It’s amazing to see how much they thought up with such little scientific knowledge of how the brain works. (It’s also amazing that even with all the technology we have now, we still don’t know everything about dreaming or the brain.)
