Stolen

I am on my way to my music class. However, when I get outside the classroom, I realize that I have to leave my bag outside in a cubby before I can enter the hall. I put my bag into a cubby, and walk towards the door. Instead of going into the classroom, I turn around to realize that my bag is gone. I look around the hallway for it, but I can’t find it. I suddenly realize that I have missed two classes. Everyone begins to leave the music room, so I go inside to look for my bag. People are still hanging around the room as I begin to search.

Freud and “I”

Reading Freud was both interesting and frustrating. I have never really been interested in psychology or in dreams. My old copy of Interpretation was mostly used as a writing table; however, when I opened my new edition, and read a few a pages, I realized that Freud can be interesting. The theories that he introduces are both helpful, and at times, over the top. It seems as if Freud prods his patients into giving him the answers that he desires, and that he is not really giving the entire truth concerning his patient’s information.

Separation

My sister and I are sitting in an LIRR train in Penn Station. As we are waiting for the train to leave the station, I stare out the window and watch the people pass by on the platform. Leaning towards the window, I recognize one of my cousins, Sarah, walking into another car on the same train. I get out of my seat, and walk into the next car to say hello to her. I look around the car, and spot her sitting in the corner.

Jung's "Huh?" Factor

Reading Jung was both more difficult and easier than reading Freud. Whereas Freud uses a lot of examples in order to explain his ideas, Jung makes these broad statements that cannot be explained through the use of examples. This makes Jung harder to understand because you can not see a real example of his ideas. This is especially true when he gets to telepathy and later ideas in the work. Freud was a lot more usefully when it came to truly explaining his theories, no matter how crazy some of his explanations may seem. However, I found myself agreeing with more of Jung’s ideas than I did Freud; Jung seems less sex-crazed, which is another appealing aspect to his work.

Short

I’m in my room lying on the floor. Hearing a knocking on the downstairs door, I get up and proceed down the stairs to see who is at the door. I open the door and my mother comes in, closely followed by my father. My mother has cut her hair very short, and to be frank, it looks atrocious. She says that she has always wanted to cut her hair short, and that she likes the way it looks. That’s it. It was quite a short dream this time.

Notes: My mother and I were at Macy’s the day before, and while we were waiting on line, my mother commented on the woman’s hair that was standing in front of us. My mother asked me if she should cut her hair that short, and I told her no. (This lady’s hair was extremely short, bordering on a men’s hairstyle). She agreed with me.

Stitches

I’m sitting in my room watching television. I don’t remember if I was actually watching anything. My sister and my cousin walk in and sit down. They tell me to go look in the mirror because my stitches are coming undone. I go to the bathroom and look in the mirror.

Kafka

Out of all the Kafka stories we read, I thought that the most interesting one was "The Judgement." The other two were also good; however, I thought that this story had some of the more interesting dream elements.
