I had another dream recently about being shot. I haven;t had one of these dreams in a while---I think it was triggered about a dream aI read about recently on these blogs. In the dream, I was at work, and I woke up to see someone at the door who had a gun with him. He pointed it at me and I froze. I immediately felt the pain of the bullet entering me and I had to struggle to wake up , but as soon as I woke up it felt as if the dream was beginnning to fragment. Right then and there I tried to recall what happened and write it down, before I lost track of what happened. I guess I can attribute this dream to the fact that the door at my job is always left open and that I often leave it that way because so many people are always coming in and out of the office. From now on, I think I'll go back to locking it, like I did before, because I'm not going to take any chances with people taking me by surprise (That already happened witha drunk one time, but that's another story...). Now, I'll be twice as paranoid as I am now--which is hard for me to fathom consider I'm Obsessive Compulsive when it comes to locking doors since I've been a little boy....(Calling Dr. Jung!)

I know the fragmented feeling you describe. You try to keep repeating to yourself what happened in your dream, but by the time you get a pen in your hand, half of the dream has faded away.
I've been shot several times in my dream life. Sometimes, when I get shot or hurt in a dream, I will immediately wake up with a jerk. I'll be tense and I'll feel the adrenaline racing through my body. So it's almost as if my brain felt that it had physically happened, but my body wasn't actually harmed.

You had a drunk stumble in to your office? Where do you work, in a bar? I used to work in a bar, and we kept a cricket bat handy for just such an occasion. If you've got drunks stumbling in off the street at your office, you should do the same. Oh, and locking your doors living in this city is not obsessive/cumpulsive, it's common sense. People don't just dream about getting shot around here, youknowwhatI'msayin'?

Wow, that was a little creepy. I am so paranoid also, probably obsessive compulsive too, but in a different way than doors which I will not get into now lol. I think I've had a dream where I've been shot, but as I've been reading the comments here, I don't remember it being forceful enough for me to wake up. That's interesting that it woke you up. It feels like dream and waking life collided or something with the bullet in the dream hitting you and then real you being jolted just as much allowing you to wake up. Weird.
Btw, I would lock my doors too...just in case =)

Yea, that's kind of scary. I'm always scared about leaving doors open too. I don't want to take any chances with anything. Was this dream a recurring one? You mentioned that you had other dreams before about being shot. Are they the same or different in any way?

Perhaps I'm nuts to say this but I have the opposite reaction to everyone else on the whole "locking the doors" thing. Unless it really is a dodgy neighborhood near your office and crazy people can wander in, then I wouldn't start locking doors that you usually leave open, which makes you more acessible to your work mates and students. I think a bit of paranoia can be useful to make us careful but sometimes having that "something may happen to me" feeling is almost, (I know, not quite!) but somewhat damaging for us to live with too. My idea is sort of, why be overly cautious of something that is not that likely to happen? The fear is not good for us either. Take precautions but don't go to extremes, sort of thing.. my caveat being that locking doors at night or when you are alone in the building does make sense though. Saying all this, last night there was a strange tapping sound outside my apartment. My boyfriend was up in the middle of the night hearing more strange noises, being more paranoid than I. (I was too busy snoring !) Who is the nut in this case - me for not being more alert when someone could, in theory, have been on the fire escape or him for being too alert and not getting a full nights sleep... alas, we may never know..:)
