Dreams in Film

donniedarko.jpg

Check out this link on IASD website to Dream Videophile which lists many movies that have dream content : http://www.asdreams.org/videofil.htm

One of my favorites on the list is Donnie Darko (image above). It stars a young Jake Gyllenhall and has become something of a cult movie. The suspense builds. The music is great. I love it's portrayal of teenage life and angst by showing Donnie's daily 'normal' life, which is in contrast with his inner life and the disturbing dreams he can't figure out. Don't want to give too much away by saying more, but I do recommend it... even if, like me, you are long past being a teenager :)

Optimus2g:

I've always heard good things about this film. I still haven't gotten the chance to see it, but I denfinitely will now considering the fact that I will have time in another month or so and that I have the Blockbuster movie pass--which I barely use any more because of the lack of leisure time that I have (I have NO life right now, sad as that may sound). I always knew that this film had supernatural elements incorporated into it, however I didn't know that dream elements were also incorporated into the plot of this film. This defintely makes it more interesting to see (Jake Gyllenhal and his real-life sister Maggie are both in it too. Maggie, appropriately, plays Jake's sister). Thanks for reminding me about this cult-film!

Mind's Torque Wrench:

I hadn't seen Donny Darko till a few weeks ago and I have to saw that it is right along the lines of what we have been studying in class. I love the ending! I also like all the scenes with the psychiatrist.
