Our day out

Enjoyed our school trip! Very cool to have our own screening at the brand new Moma. Movie was unusual... and interesting. I love the title. Makes me think about the term "bourgeoise" - that it is not used so much now. It seems like it would not hold as much water as an insult these days when consumerism is a way of life and the middle class lifestyle is held up as something for us all to aspire to. It's good to see something that mocks that 'ideal' now and then.
I loved the frenchness of the movie, down to the greetings, the clothes and the detailed talk of food and drink. The relationships had some good surprises - the drug ring, the affair, the couple running out to have sex in the garden, the soldier telling the strange story about murdering his father! The political scenarios - like the army coming in for dinner and then doing manoeveres nearby were funny also - and then of course all the dream sequences gave some good twists and more send-ups of politics, religion and class.

Conference Dream

I dreamt it was the Honors Conference and we were going on stage. Then it changed to a debate. Brian Lehrer from NPR radio was there moderating. Then there was a woman with a european accent on stage telling us about a book she illustrated. It was supposed to be the "most beautiful book in the world". Some of my family were in the audience (but they don't live in New York) and then I also recognised some of my school friends (from elementary school) in the audience. It seems the whole thing was at once the honors conference, a radio show debate and a school presentation from years ago. I met my younger sister in the bathroom and she had a cold. There are other details but I don't remember them.
I often have dreams where people from my past are in the same place with people from New York. Or that the setting of the dream seems to be here ( that's not always explicit, but I presume it perhaps, because in the dreams I feel I am as I am now) but the people in the dream are from my original country and don't live here in reality.

Your age and your dreams

Do our dreams change over time? What age are we in our dreams when we get older?
My mother and father are in their seventies. My mother told me on the phone that she recently had this dream. Basically it is about my father telling her that he is leaving her - for another woman. In the dream she is very distraught and she said she is pleading with him to stay, but "to no avail" and she said she woke up "in a terrible state". It seems funny to me because it highly unlikely that my father would be having an affair at this stage in life, having been married to my mother so long, (over 50 years), yet it still bothered her a lot while she was dreaming it.

Re-occuring dream from Childhood

Following on from my previous entry, here is another of my mother's dreams, but she had it when she was a young girl and she said it was re-occuring and she still remembers it well.
There is a knock on the front door of the house she grew up in. She goes out to answer it and "something" brushes past her and it goes "thump thump" around the house. The sound seems to be what really gets to her in the dream as the sound of the "thump" gets louder and louder. It seems like she knows she is dreaming because she "wants to wake up, but can't".
This seems to be a lucid nightmare, where she knows she is dreaming but cannot wake up or change the events. She gets more and more scared in the dream until eventually she does wake up, in a sweat.

News and celebs - mixed up in this dream

A member of government from my country is going to give an important speech. At first I am watching people following him on TV but then I am closer to the action and am observing the situation at a closer range- he is going up stairs with a group of reporters following him. The room he goes into is very modern, an almost triangular shaped room with one part of the room "higher" than the other, and it all sits at the top of the curving staircase. Everything is a light colored wood and there is a podium for him to speak from, about peace and political agreements being made in the country. A female american ambassador asks him some questions. I could be back to watching this on TV because in the dream I am explaining to someone else that "this all looks small , but it isn't as small as it looks".
