When I think of dreams that have been in film, it's hard for me to think of any. However, there is one book that was later turned into a film and a musical called The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett which depicts dreams. Growing up, this was my favorite book, but now after picking it up again, I hadn't realized that there were so many references to dreams in it. There are all sorts of allusions to dreams, whether it be nightmares, regular dreams, prophetic dreams (?), and others. It's a great book, so if you want something to read after the semester is over and if you're not too tired after all of the stress that finals have brought you read The Secret Garden . I guarantee you that you will like it. I believe that it was meant for younger audience such as children and young adults, but so is Harry Potter and that doesn't stop adults from reading it! But if you don't like this book, don't blame me! To find out more information about the book/film, here is a link that you can look at:

This was also one of my favorite books when I was growing up. Now that you mention it, I'm definitely seeing how certain parts of this book can seem dreamlike. It's funny, but now that I've taken this class, I think I'll be looking at many books, films, etc. differently than I did before I took a dreams class.

It's been a long time since I've read that book! The movie was great, too. Another classic book that includes a dream is The Wizard of Oz. When Dorothy wakes up back in Kansas, her uncle and aunt try to convince her that she was just dreaming. But Dorothy is adamant:
"But it wasn't a dream -- it was a place.
And you -- and you -- and you -- and you were there!"

I also am looking at dreams in literature and film in a completely new way. Just read a review on the new anime film entitled "Paprika" which has a dream sequence in it. Before I would have passed that by, but now I'll probably go check it out.
